Director Guichard.

This is a surprise.

This season, we're introducing a new character, Guichard.

He's the Director of Police.

He is the authority.

There is a different why, you know.

Why investigate this at all?

Guichard was like Maigret before.

He actually promoted Maigret and is now starting to be a little embarrassed by the attention that he draws and his style of investigation.

I expected results and discretion.

I got neither.

Maigret stamps his authority really well amongst his team, and they show rather wonderful loyalty.

That puts Guichard's back up a little bit.

It riles him to see somebody coming up the ranks.

He decides that Maigret needs to be taken down a peg.

As an attempt to slow his team down, another member of the IGDS ends up in Maigret's team.

Inspector George Bonfils.

I've been transferred to your section.

George Bonfils comes from internal affairs, has always wanted to work with Les Maigrets, but finds the experience of working with this maverick team very much not what he expected.

He's a very diligent inspector who cares very deeply about the rules.

He absolutely idolizes the Maigrets.

A package was picked up.

We need to stop it.

Okay, but it's not quite as simple as that, is it?

There are privacy issues.

What privacy issues?

Has the owner of the package been informed?

For God's sake, I'll be there in 10 minutes.

I'll do it myself.

This hero who he's built up in his mind does things in a way which is completely not the way that he's trained.

If you're someone who plays by the rules and the system, Maigret's not for you.

He is someone who will get the job done, but in his own way, and you have to just trust the process.

Bonfils, he wants to do things by the book and clock off his shift at the time it finishes and things like that, whereas the team just knows that we keep going until we get this case done.

-Lapointe, with me.

-Do you want me to come, too?

-No.

In order to be a good detective, you have to follow something deeper than the rules.

You have to trust yourself.

You decided to teach him a lesson because you were jealous of his success.

Those two big characters coming in have added to the depth and the richness, and honestly, the comedy of the series.

I'm heading out there now.

-I'll bring Lapointe.

-Fine.

See you there.

It's good to know who's boss.
