A mother serves her son a banana swirl treat.

Mom Tiger invites Daniel to take a break from playing to make a special treat for their dinner guest Miss Elaina. Try this recipe with your child to help them practice following directions and trying new foods.

Ingredients

This recipe requires 4 hours of freezing time.

Directions

1

Peel two whole bananas and place them in a freezer-safe container. Put them in the freezer for a few hours. When they’re frozen, invite your child to feel them. Ask your child how they feel compared to a banana that’s not frozen. What do they notice about the texture?

2

Put the frozen bananas into a blender. Invite your child to press the button with you to start blending. As it blends, ask your child about the sound they hear. Is it loud? Is it soft? If your child doesn’t like the noise, suggest that they cover their ears. Blend the mixture until it’s smooth and not liquidy.

3

Next, invite your child to taste the banana swirl. If your child is nervous to try something new, remind them that “you gotta try new food ‘cause it might taste good!” Give your child a small scoop of banana swirl on a spoon they can hold and control how much they try at a time. Ask them if it tastes like something they have had before.

4

If they like banana swirl, invite them to have more! Serve banana swirl in a bowl or in an ice cream cone. Praise your child for trying something new and help them share the special treat with family and friends.
