in 1921.
The first sugar house was built.
I wasn't born then, My Uncle Lazarre and Aunt.
And they're the ones who built the first one.
And then Armond was about six years old when they were adopted by Lazarre Bisson, the one that had the sugar house.
And that's where he learned the trade of doing that.
He was only five or six years old when he was adopted by them, with the rest of the family.
And so he started learning with Lazarre and and he grew up doing that until he was about 16, I think, when my uncle passed away.
And then he took over the business.
at that time, they had the buckets hanging on all the trees and the men had to use those snowshoes to get about.
They were walking from one tree to another to pick up the sap, and they had a horse and buggy and like a cart and I guess they dumped all the pails in there.
So it was a lot of work for them.
we were a big family.
We didn't have much money to go and shop, but they would bring us some, they were tins cups were tin with a handle and there was taffy in there.
man, was that good.
So there was nine children in our family.
So you see, we enjoyed that.
you know, on weekends they used to have some dances for the neighbors and the family, and they had this Mr. Net.
He was playing the violin, Somebody played the accordion and they were dancing and having fun.

The old sugar house.
Yes.
They had that on Saturday nights.
Not every week, but once in a while.
I liked them and they had fun and I was so anxious to grow older, to be able to go and dance with them because they were having fun.
so after my uncle passed away, my Uncle Armen took over the business.
And then when he was old enough, I think it's only when he got married that he built his own sugar house, the new one.
when they opened up, maybe a few weeks later, they would have a sugar party.
They would give you a cup.
And they, you know, when they cut up the pieces of sugar, there was always some small pieces.
This was on the side.
Well, they used that on the ice cream like a sun, and they gave some to everybody.
They came in.
they made the sugar and they made a taffy, the syrup They made also the little cakes of sugar, which were shaped in different, different shapes.
they had people that would order from out of town.
And so they would ship the stuff to them.
And one time there's a priest that had gone to visit the pope and they brought him some taffy and some maple syrup from Bisson’s, from Berlin, New Hampshire.
Wow, that went to the pope.
Muriel, which was she was a niece of my uncle they were tired and they had put it up for sale and nobody bought it, so they just closed it.
Yeah, it was closed over a year ago and they took down the sign that was be someone else's.
that was sad.
But the cabin remains in the family.
