Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship[upbeat music] [upbeat music] I am Jennifer Minsky, and I am the owner of PopLuck Popcorn.
It's been interesting to watch our shop evolve over time.
We've been here almost six years, it'll be six years next month, the end of July.
And through that time, we've gone through COVID, we've learned a lot too, trial and error.
As being an independent business owner, I had to learn how to do everything myself.
And I don't like being told what to do but sometimes it is nice to have a leader and I had to learn.
During COVID we definitely struggled as far as learning how to adapt.
We weren't able to be open during COVID due to capacity restrictions, so our shop, we had to quickly convert to doing drive up service.
So we had a lot of fun with that.
People would call in, we were running six phone lines some days, which got to be a little crazy, but just to have a little fun with it.
When our staff was offering curbside service, our one employee would dress in costume and take the popcorn out to customers.
We do a flavor change every single day on our board so we offer three staple flavors every day which would be our Generic Jenny, which is our salted butter popcorn.
We have two different cheddars whether we do a white cheddar or a traditional orange cheddar.
And then we have our homemade caramel and then everything else we rotate.
So our signature dishes, a lot of times maybe we'll use a local product or we'll do something with pop culture.
Like this weekend for instance, there's the Taylor Swift concert.
So we have two different Taylor Swift featured flavors right now.
We'll do some Father's Day things too that'll be switching out this afternoon into the weekend also.
We use a lot of different local products in our popcorns.
When we feature we try to feature a lot of local businesses too.
So whether we use sponge candy, we do a pepperoni ball one, we use local beer or local distilled products.
So we use a lot of different bakeries.
Our future plans for PopLuck is really we just try to be the best we can.
I always joke that if I was 10 years younger we'd definitely expand a little.
I like to be here a lot, so, and I'm getting older, so it's hard just to run this shop some days just 'cause there's always something happening here.
So I can't imagine having two.
But we do expand as far as we're in 30 country fair stores every week, and then we also have retail presence in a few other locations.
I watch a lot of our customers walk in the door and actually look shocked when my staff all yells, hello.
Everybody's always super friendly here.
I'm super picky with my staff, but it works and they're very friendly, and they offer a great experience not only with our product but with the customer service.
